A Miswak stick is an organic toothbrush made from Peelu tree or Olive trees. Even though the idea of chewing on a stick is fairly foreign to most Americans, Miswak sticks are used extensively throughout the Middle East and Africa.
I had the fortunate experience of growing up in Africa. Between the ages of seven and 12, I was amazed to see so many people in Africa with beautiful white teeth. When I lived in Bamako, Mali; none of these people went to dentists. Instead, they used chewing sticks on a regular basis. Our gardener and maids, would take small twigs from a tree growing in our house, and use them to brush their teeth. Coming from a Western ‘civilized’ nation, I thought that it was a cheap toothbrush.
However, Miswak is more than just a toothbrush. It is a complete method to take care of your teeth without having to ever go to the dentist. It save you money, it helps you have beautiful and healthy teeth, and it works.
I made the video below to talk about some of the benefits of using miswak.
Below are some of my favorite Miswak Sticks. I especially recommend the 36 pack, the Miswak holder and the licorice sticks for your kids (because they have a sweet taste).
The truth about a chewing stick a provides you with better oral hygiene than brushing your teeth with toothpaste and visiting the dentist regularly. When you go to the dentist, they look for soft spots in your teeth. Rather than trying to fix these soft spots or allowing them to heal naturally, they will frequently drill them out and replace them with a filling.
Most dentists do not believe that you can heal your teeth. By replacing it with a filling, they say they are trying to prevent you from getting a cavity. Chewing on Miswak is a great way to make your soft enamel become hard again.
Cavities are essentially an infection in your tooth. If you can get rid of the infection, your tooth should be able to heal all on its own. Since Miswak is antibacterial, it can also help heal infections.
Teeth and gums that are healthy, don’t get cavities. Brushing your teeth doesn’t make them healthy. But this is probably because you can’t chew on a tooth brush.
How to Use a Chewing Stick
Here’s a simple procedure on how to use Miswak. If the stick is moist when it arrives, then you just need to peel back the first three quarters of an inch of bark and start chewing on the filament inside of it until they become soft like bristles. The chewing motion helps to strengthen your teeth enamel, and your gums. As you chew, it increases blood flow through your teeth. It makes your teeth stronger.
You want to repeat this process on a daily basis to have strong teeth and gums. One advantage of using Peelu as a chewing sick is that it helps to get rid of bacteria that cause cavities. Even if you do have a cavity in your mouth, you can get rid of the bacteria that cause your cavity to hurt. Over time, you can get rid of smaller cavities simply by eating healthy and chewing on Miswak.
You can chew on the stick for 15 to 20 minutes a day. This can easily be done when you’re driving in your car, reading a book, watching a movie, or surfing the net. This is a natural way to get whiter and healthier teeth. I use Miswak to help me relieve stress.
If your stick is dry and hard when you get it, soak it in water for awhile. Your saliva should also help to loosen the stick when you start chewing on it. In addition to chewing on it, the brush-like end of the Miswak chewing stick can also be pulled across your molars and your teeth to help whiten them. This is a natural way to whiten your teeth and help them look healthy. It doesn’t even involve using bleach or artificial whiteners that can permanently damage them. Brushing your teeth with Miswak for 10 to 20 minutes each day can help you to have healthy and naturally beautiful teeth.
